I hope that 2012 will bring wonderful things for all. Life has been hard for so many. It may be trite but it is also true that hardship can forge strength and character.
For those who have been defeated by the past, let us resolve to extend a helping hand. Just because my life is better, I do not want to leave others behind. I want to share my good fortune and good feelings with those who may still feel despair.
I spent Christmas with my sisters and their families. My nieces blew me away. "Little" Robin has grown into the most beautiful and awesome young woman. Losing her sister, I am sure, has changed her. But it seems to have changed her in positive ways. She has not lost her compassion or her love of life. She has enlarged those qualities.
None of us believe that losing Ellie has made the world better in any way. Her loss, and the loss of other shining young lives diminishes us. It is our job to fill those empty spaces with love and understanding.
